Opt-Out of Junk Mail
June 07, 2007
One of the biggest frustrations (if not THE biggest) for anyone with an email account are the massive amounts of spam received. Thankfully for me, Gmail's spam filters catch almost all of the fake offers, scams, and foreign text before I have a chance to lay eyes on them.
What you don't really hear about anymore is the constant flow of junk mail that reaches their physical, USPS mailbox. Has it become so commonplace that no one cares to complain? I guess it is easier to simply throw away a thick, unopened envelope filled with unwanted offers or advertisements. Waste of trees? Bah, fuck trees. I need more credit cards and insurance, please!
I recently stumbled across a post from Unclutterer that allows one to opt-out of pre-screened credit card and insurance solicitations for five years or forever. It may take a few months to stop receiving the junk mail, but you'll still have 4+ years of freedom. In conjunction with the Do Not Call registry, unwanted phone calls and junk mail can be severely retarded (in the slow way, not mental way, jerk).
